According to
Jashemski, the peristyle garden was originally enclosed by a portico on the
west, north and east.
A passageway led
directly from the Vicolo del Gallo into the portico of
this house without an atrium.
The circular area with
remains of a wall was an aviary.

According to Garcia y
Garcia, in this garden Luigi Jacono had in part
reconstructed the antique birdhouse or aviary.
The aerial bombardment
of 1943 destroyed three of the rooms on the east side and part of the south
perimeter wall.
In the following years
even the aviary was dismantled.
