VII.2.51 Pompeii. December 2004. Entrance with square tufa capitals.

Two electoral programmes were found on the wall bordering the entrance.

Della Corte said in 1964, these were still partly readable.       

 

Suettium  aed.  ovf.  Potitus  cliens  r(ogat)     [CIL IV 593]

 

Suettios  Certum  II vir  i. d. (et)  Verum  aed.  (et)  Celsum,  (huius)

        collegam,  quorum  innocentiam  probastis, rog(ate).

                       Elainus  dissign(ator)  rog(at)      [CIL IV 597]

According to Fiorelli, it was written as

Travertine cube shaped puteal with deep rope mark from the atrium.

According to Leach, this painted plaster is the only surviving trace of decoration.

These were a number of red and yellow 1^st style blocks in the entranceway.
