V.1.26 Pompeii. Lararium in north-west corner of atrium. The upper marble relief which was stolen in 1975.
It was discovered in 2023 in a residential house in Belgium. It had been sold to a Belgian family as a souvenir whilst they were on holiday in 1975.
It was displayed set in the wall above the stairs to the basement of their house for over 50 years.
Following an investigation by Belgian Judicial police, and a visit by a delegation from Pompeii to confirm it is the original marble relief, it is hoped it will return to Pompeii.
