Room 1, atrium. Looking south across atrium, impluvium and
fountain.
According to Jashemski, Spinazzola said the space between
the walls had been lined in wood and would have formed a permanent planting box.
The impluvium had been bordered by a low, double masonry
wall, covered with marble on the outside.

damaged by bombing in 1943 and have been rebuilt.

According to Garcia y Garcia, as a result of the bombing
of 19th September 1943, the three rooms on the west side of the atrium were
partially destroyed.
All of the corresponding perimeter external wall was also
destroyed.
