According to Jashemski, Spinazzola said the space between the walls had been lined in wood and would have formed a permanent planting box. The impluvium had been bordered by a low, double masonry wall, covered with marble on the outside. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. Room 1, atrium. Looking south across atrium, impluvium and fountain.

According to Jashemski, Spinazzola said the space between the walls had been lined in wood and would have formed a permanent planting box.

The impluvium had been bordered by a low, double masonry wall, covered with marble on the outside.

According to Garcia y Garcia, as a result of the bombing of 19th September 1943, the three rooms on the west side of the atrium were partially destroyed.
