According to Boyce, in the south wall of the kitchen
beside the hearth was a fragmentary painting in two zones.
It was on a white background outlined with red stripes.
In the upper zone stood the Genius, with
a Lar.
In the lower zone, beneath garlands, was the tail of a
black and yellow serpent.
Below the serpent were several kitchen articles, a hog’s
head, a ham on a nail, and an eel on a spit.
